Colony House: The Good Ones
Branding // Packaging Design // Art Direction

Project Overview

Colony House is a Franklin, Tennessee based indie rock band formed in 2009 by brothers Caleb and Will Chapman, along with Parke Cotrell and Scott Mills. Since their debut in 2014 with When I was younger, they have been considered an influential staple within the indie rock scene.

The main focus of this case study is the creation of a logo and the four emblems, each of which represents each member of Colony House. The emblems would play into practice within a greatest hits album, all of which will push the band’s visual representation and appeal for new fans.

A redesign of their original three keys logo, the new keywheel logo utilizes four keys for all four members. Which further allows the versitality of the mark into further branding play.

The emblems are largely the main stars of this case study. Each band member is represented by an emblem or symbol that fits each member’s visual persona and traits.

This idea was inspired by Led Zeppelin’s Led Zeppelin IV and Sonic Youth’s Daydream Nation, in which all band members were designed an emblem that represented themselves by visual and personality.

Caleb Chapman “Guidance”
Parke Cottrell “Wisdom”

Will Chapman “Passion”

Scott Mills “Hope”

The Final cover-artwork specifically depicts a pair of golden tomatoes, as they are floating on a jacket in shallow water. Encompassing the themes of searching for hope, guidance, and breakaway from loss, all of which reflect the music in the chosen discography of the album.

Each element of the cover are references to some of Colony House’s past work such as Bad Tomatoes, When I was Younger, Leave What’s Lost Behind, & The Cannonballers.
